With pick-up at or very near your hotel in Florence, we will go by shuttle to San Gimignano to visit the old medieval city – UNESCO World Heritage Site – walking around inside the city walls. Your bike touring gets through the most beautiful back-roads to Siena, smooth and with little traffic. We will cross the Via Francigena which, in the Middle Ages, was traveled on by pilgrims and by local people who used it to get to work and to search for their daily supplies.
Getting a little dusty while cycling Tuscany along these ancient paths only adds a touch of authenticity to this memorable adventure which we call “Pilgrim for a day!”
Biking at your own pace on gentle, rolling hills famous for their beauty, we will head to Monteriggioni. A stop to visit the village is mandatory! The castle, almost untouched by time, the church, the square walls, and the small specialty shops are just asking for photos!
Ready for sipping some local, delicious Chianti wine? Then this is the right place for you!
We will then leave Monteriggioni for Siena on a gently curving road, through typical Tuscan landscapes with churches, castles, villages and beautiful fields.
Enchanted by these places we will quickly reach the ancient walls of Siena – UNESCO World Heritage Site – in the early afternoon, with just the right amount of time for your light lunch scrolling in the city of the Palio and—why not?— have a delicious gelato downtown! Elena and Piero will be happy to provide you with a city map as well as the best recommendations: there are several delicious and affordable local options to choose from.
